Description of the research topic:

Syllabus
The semantic web has a number of relationships with the library science and elaborated „traditional” library technologies, from which it can profit a lot (e.g. in the field of handling the metadata and cataloging, the importance of thesauri, taxonomies and controlled vocabularies is crucial in subject analysis). The so far created library technologies (thesauri, taxonomies and controlled vocabularies) can be studied and compared with web ontologies, concept maps and topic maps from different aspects. For example: what set of rules do they follow in their implementation? What way of thinking and methodology does their implementation require? Which knowledge organisation tool is the most efficient from the aspect of use? What semantic relationships do they support between their subject terms? We can formulate several research questions which are similar to the above mentioned ones in the thorough investigation of the subject.
