Description of the research topic:

Human pancreatic ductal epithelial cells (PDEC) produce an alkaline fluid which is essential for (i) normal digestion and (ii) maintaining the integrity of the pancreas. These secretory processes are regulated by different intracellular mechanisms in which Ca2+ plays fundamental role. It has been well documented the oscillatory calcium signalling is one of the key regulator of secretory mechanisms in PDEC, but the exact mechanism is unclear.
