Description of the research topic:
The research field encompasses branches and movements of the local and global independent film in the 20. and 21. century. Here belongs all forms of independent cinema and the professional, but community based studio films (like the Balázs Béla Studio in Hungary), films made by laicists with scientific and artistic purposes (ethnographic and anthropological documentaries, short fictions), films made in co-ops on participatory or community basis, from the analogue and digital periods in media history. These cinematic phenomena differ from the industrial and professional hierarchical filmmaking in their organizational and institutional forms, but also in their subjects and ideological foundations, as far as they represent with greater chance the alternative worldviews, private horizonts and subversive counter-speeches of everyday life.
