Description of the research topic:

Our clinical-epidemiological ongoing projects involve several disorders including systemic sclerosis, imflammatory myopathies, systemic lupus erythematosus, and rheumatoid arhtirtis. The main field of interest is the risk assessment and evaluation of disease activity, and organ damage. We have follow up studies to evaluate risk factors for development of severe organ damage in cases with SSc. We also develop and validate new instruments for the investigation of disease activity and damage in patients with systemic sclerosis. Our further aim is to look for new biomarkers that can be useful as prognostic markers in these particular disorders. We also have a cooperative project investigating the B lymphocyte gene activation profile in patients with early systemic sclerosis.
