Description of the research topic:
The work aims to develop smart, novel drug delivery nanoparticles for different biomedical purposes. The colloidal carriers offer numerous advantages to the application of “free” drugs of pharmaceutical significance. Mainly two types of drug delivery systems are proposed, synthetic or natural polymer -based and liposomal carriers. The detailed characterization of the carriers according to the different synthesis condition is planned to examine and the most promising system would be further tested. How the essential physicochemical properties determined by the preparation condition effect the medical effectiveness would be studied. The developed NPs will be used for the encapsulation of relevant drug molecules such us kynurenic acid and its derivatives, mitomycin or nimodipine showing neuroprotective, antitumor, antibacterial or Ca2+ channel blocker properties.
