Description of the research topic:

The multi-pass rolling process of a Nb-Ti alloy will be simulated by finite element modeling, and also with an analytical flow function. These approaches permit to obtain the velocity gradient through the whole thickness of the sheet which is the input for polycrystal plasticity simulations with the VPSC (’Viscoplastic Self-Consistent) model. In this way, detailed information can be obtained on the strain and stress fields, the crystallographic texture, strain hardening, and the evolution of several microstructural parameters (slip system activity, lattice rotations, grain fragmentation, etc.). The obtained results will be compared to experiments for texture, microstructure and strain hardening.
