Description of the research topic:

The Boda Claystone is one of the potential host rock for high level radioactive waste in Hungary, therefore it gives not only the scientific but also the economic importance of the research. The hypothesis of the research is that some of the sediments deposited during the Permian under arid/semiarid climate were affected by pedogenic processes, which is determinative in the palaeoenvironmental framework. The most important objectives of the project is to confirm or reject the proof of palaeosol existence. If the red claystones are palaeosol, the one has to determine their type, their origin. Also clarify the depositional environment, the source of sediments and their type of transport to the basin, and last but not least the effect of the Milankovitch cycle on the sedimentation. And with all these knowledge to build the palaeoenvironmental model.
