Description of the research topic:

The linguistic characteristics of the Late Latin language spoken on the territories of the ancient West Roman Empire cannot be approached directly, because the written documents offer a very imperfect image of the reality of spoken language. The doctoral thesis to prepare should find the best methods for the discovery of linguistic trends in Late Latin texts, in view of representing the directions of the diachronic change of Latin. At the same time, a set of hypotheses should be developed for explaining the rapid typological change of the language.
