Description of the research topic:

The effect and effectiveness of drugs usually depends on the direct or indirect interaction of these molecules with different proteins. Drugs usually induce changes in various protein-controlled biochemical pathways by activating or blocking a receptor or enzyme, but their transport into cells and metabolism are also regulated by proteins. Thus, high-performance study of the expression of proteins are essential in efficient drug development. The recently observed increase in significance of quantitative proteomics is related to the developments in the instrumentation and data analysis in chromatography, mass spectrometry and bioinformatics, and the more and more sophisticated and targeted application of those. Obtaining statistically valid results with biochemical significance is a challenge due to the high complexity and variability of biological samples and the pitfalls of quantitative mass spectrometry. The task for the new doctoral student is development of novel sample processing, chromatographic (HPLC, UPLC), mass spectrometric and data analysis methods for proteomic studies focusing on proteins related to mechanism, transport and metbolism of pharmaceuticals.
