Description of the research topic:

Poverty is a global problem today. The difficulties in adapting to increasingly rapid economic and social roles following the transition to a market economy can be attributed to economic and social reasons. The proportion of people with adjustment difficulties exceeding a critical level endangers the proper functioning of the society and the economy. When examining poverty, it is important to choose the right methodology and indicators. In addition to objective (absolute, relative and welfare policy) concepts of poverty, the subjective definition of poverty can also be defined. The Easterlin paradox draws attention to the fact that the extents of absolute and subjective poverty are independent of each other. According to the socialization hypothesis, the subjective interpretation of poverty can only adapt to changing social and economic conditions in the long run.
Poverty reduction is a global challenge today. According to some theories, in addition to welfare programs and international resources, economic growth may also contribute to the alleviation of poverty due to the trickle down effect. In addition, there is an increasing emphasis on social innovations in poverty reduction, which often seek to help those in need in a sustainable way by involving stakeholders.
In connection with the processes described above, the following topics may be examined under my supervision:
- subjective interpretation of poverty;
- the evolution of the objective (absolute, relative, welfare policy) and subjective poverty indicators, and the relationship between them;
- economic and social causes of poverty;
- structural and individualist causes of poverty;
- ways of poverty reduction;
- the impact of economic growth and development on poverty;
- vertical and horizontal effectiveness of welfare programs;
- social enterprises established to reduce poverty;
- social innovations for poverty reduction;
- the relationship between poverty and the labor market situation.

To examine the above described topics, it is recommended to learn the following methodologies: econometrics (cross-sectional, time series, panel regression, time lag), systematic data collection, structured interviewing, poverty indicators (poverty rate, poverty gap, poverty deficit), inequality indicators (Theil index, Gini coefficient, Lorenz curve).
