Description of the research topic:

The aim of research is to overview the development of Hungarian financial markets in 2000s based on the financial reports of financial service providers and supervisory reports. It examines, how quick is the modernisation of the Hungarian financial system compared to the old member states of the European Union and how the space of modernisation relates to the other Central-Eastern European countries. The research focuses mostly to the bank system, more specifically to the credit institutions and examines, if the prudency rules provide satisfactory defense against the operational risks of financial markets and how good is the efficiency of financial intermediation.
The bank efficiency is examined by five aspects:
1. What is the importance of financial intermediation and the credit institutions in the recent years – separately examined the crisis and the post-crisis periods?
2. What is the risk exposure of financial system in various aspects?
3. How did the concentration of bank system change?
4. What kind of factors determine the profitability of banks and the competitiveness of the financial sector?
5. How valid is the unique price law in case of various bank services and how did the official requirements and decrees modify the competition?
