Description of the research topic:
Especially in emerging markets SMEs and households tend to borrow in
foreign currency without natural hedge. It means that they take a speculative position and run a
high risk as we have seen during the financial crisis. From a policy point of view, it is important to
see the reasons behind this behaviour to see whether any action is needed. From the companies’
perspectives, it is worth to see the effect on the companies’ financial performance.
