Description of the research topic:
"More and more businesses employ some form of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), thus ERP solutions are highly sought after. Vendors provide new technologies to satisfy business needs and keep pace with the latest enterprise requirements. Recently, we have experienced a shift towards the cloud-based solutions, while the emergence of (Industrial) Internet of Things (IIoT) and the Cyber-physical Systems (CPS) has brought about the birth of several techniques gathered under the term Industry 4.0 (I4). Machine Learning (ML) is also an important driving force of I4 solutions. These techniques have already appeared in ERP systems, but further adaptation is required. New solutions embracing the opportunities opened up by the I4 are now in the focal point of current research activity.
This PhD research topic includes, but not limited to the following research tasks:
• Performance evaluation and improvement of current IIoT approaches
• Development of novel I4 techniques in ERP environment
• Provide IIoT techniques to current ERP softwares
• Apply Machine Learning (ML) to IIoT techniques used in ERP environment
• Create research evaluation environment for IIoT and ERP integration solutions
The developed techniques should be implemented by potentially using the available industrial standards, open source solutions and shall be validated in several test scenarios."
