Description of the research topic:
The project intends to examine the feasibility of protein-based molecular circuits suitable for logic operations and digital signal processing. During the first, theoretical part of the research the student is required to propose promising computing architectures, based on the advantageous properties of proteins, supported by simulations. The subsequent task is about the realization of simple protein structures based on the theoretical results, capable of basic logic operations. In order to successfully accomplish the practical aspects of the work, cooperation with other institutions might be required, as well. The main research tasks:
• Study the literature regarding molecular electronics and proteins.
• Define the main problems related to the feasibility of protein-based logic circuits, propose solutions with the aid of modeling and simulations. During this task several theoretical, and practical questions should be answered, providing the opportunity for significant scientific achievements.
• Verification of the theoretical results by investigating simple experimental arrangements.
