Description of the research topic:
The quality of building materials with respect to frost and fire resistance is usually measured in destructive and often time consuming ways. High definition computer tomography images are suitable to retrieve the internal structure of these materials and to estimate fundamental properties based on these structures. The goal of this topic is to accelerate these kind of quality measurements by means of AI and other information technology approaches. This may include for example image processing, regression, classification and clustering methods, and finite element simulations.
Estimating the outcome of the measurements using these relative fast and non-destructive ways can accelerate the construction material evaluation process significantly.
