Description of the research topic:

Protecting against the effects of climate change will become increasingly important for local governments. One element of this is to protect the population from the effects of hot days. The cheapest way to do this is to build shields and space covers. However, the efficient construction of these systems requires complex GIS models.

The task of the applicant is
- 3D modeling of a city,
- calculating the expected temperature in different time of a day (and its changing due to the climate change)
- modeling the effect of the different shading solutions (tree, linen, artificial tunnels, etc.)
- develop a method which calculates the optimal walking route any time of the day depending on the shading of the area
- develop a method for urban leaders to determine the most cost-effective shading places and solutions.

The Sustainability Solutions Research Lab has been working on climate change for decades. Even today, we are preparing strategies and solution packages for many municipalities.
