Description of the research topic:

AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is a metabolic master switch, that has a defining role in reprogramming cellular and tissue-level metabolism under various stress situations, where metabolic adaptation is required. Such conditions arise during certain diets, upon intake of sweeteners, as well as in hyperlipidemic conditions, where an adaptation might be further limited due to tissue-level pathological situations. Based on this background, we will examine the contribution of AMPK in various tissues of mice receiving artificial sweeteners as well as in dyslipidemic animals having hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
