Thesis supervisor: Bálint Kintses
Location of studies (in Hungarian): ELKH, Biological Research Center Abbreviation of location of studies: SZBK
Description of the research topic:
The combination of bacterial viruses (phages for short) and genetic engineering is one of the most actively researched disciplines of our time. The reason behind this is that genetically modified phages can be used in a wide variety of applications the areas of biotechnology and clinic.
The aim of the proposed PhD topic is to explore the therapeutic potential of genetically modified phages against antibiotic-resistant pathogenic bacterial species. For this, we use state-of-the-art synthetic biological and top-notch bioinformatics tools. The work aims at a comprehensive understanding of the evolutionary biology of phages and a detailed understanding of the conditions for efficient manipulation.
