Description of the research topic:
Bamboo is a sustainable raw material and a multipurpose plant with lignified culms. It has short growth period of about 3 years, whereas timber tree species have about 20-40 years. In ther native regions, bamboo is used to substitute timber in many applications. Recently, its use and trade has been growing rapidly.
The aim of this study is to enhance sustainable and efficient utilization of three introduced bamboo species in Ghana through the provision of relevant technological properties.
Specific Developmental Objectives
• To determine selected anatomical properties for the culm of 3 different bamboo species.
• To determine morphological properties for 3 different bamboo species.
• To determine chemical properties for 3 different bamboo species.
• To determine mechanical properties, before and after selected modifications, for 3 different bamboo species.
