Description of the research topic:
The first humans are as old as the beginning of the Quaternary, thus the sever climatological changes that characterized the entire Pleistocene and the transition to the Holocene profoundly affected the biological and cultural evolution of Homo genus. In Central Europe, the expansion-shrinking cycles of the Fennoscandian ice sheet were the major sources of environmental changes including climate, flora and fauna. Since Pleistocene humans were mobile hunter-gatherers subsisting on vegetal and animal resources, any change in the environment forces humans to change their subsistence, which results in a variability of the archaeological record that is the materialized imprint of a human culture. The aim of the research is to find significant correlation between paleo-environmental changes and cultural variability during glacial-interglacial or stadial-interstadial transitional periods of the Pleistocene.
