Description of the research topic:
A téma részletesebb leírása angolul (3–10 sor): The research adopts a cognitive-functional perspective, and aims to describe constructions involving inversion on the basis of data from several languages. Existing analyses are evaluated and new categories developed where necessary. Inversion is interpreted as reversal in the word order of two elements with respect to a functionally primary, baseline pattern. The analysis of Hungarian preverb-verb inversion is treated as a priority. However, it is equally important to describe inverting constructions in other languages in their own right, and to assess the cross-linguistic applicability of certain aspects of language-specific descriptions.
