Description of the research topic:

The course aims to give an introduction to the foundations of general acoustic phonetics (sound waves, frequency, amplitude, spectra, spectrograms, etc.), and it will also analyse English sounds in particular in acoustic terms. The course is primarily practical: students will learn how to design and carry out phonetic experiments using a computer and phonetic analysis software. We will also learn how to analyse, interpret and present the data collected from such experiments using basic statistical methods.
