Description of the research topic:

The syntax and semantics of predication revolve around questions about the representation of predication and argument-structure relations, incl. the locality of predication relations, their (non)biuniqueness (cf. the one-to-one link between arguments and thematic roles laid down in the Theta Criterion), their directionality, their (a)symmetical nature, the treatment of modification relations, the ‘small clause’, the syntax and semantics of copular elements, the distinction between predication and specification, and even the syntax and interpretation of topic and focus constructions.
