Description of the research topic:
The continuously changing of consumer preferences and eating habits lead to the storage potential enhancement of fresh table tomato. Therefore, there is a need to develop new postharvest technologies and evaluation methods. In the frame of the proposed PhD project different conventional and non-destructive measurement methods will be applied and developed for the objective determination of quality parameters of fresh tomato. On the other hand, product- and technology development will be performed to inhibit and control postharvest ripening and increase the storability and shelf-life. The proposed scientific research activity will include detection and evaluation of chilling injury symptoms and circumstances, identification and repression of mechanical injuries and their disadvantageous quality effects furthermore the development of novel packaging methods.
