Description of the research topic:
Black rot, a fungal disease of grapevine has emerged in the last years to a serious concern for viticulture. In an earlier RNASeq experiment, the Department of Viticulture at the Faculty of Horticultural Sciences (Szent István University) had identified genes which were differentially expressing in black rot tolerant and -sensitive varieties upon infection. The changed expression of these genes is being validated in RT-qPCR experiments.
Main task of the selected candidate will be the characterisation of the selected genes. The work includes the bioinformatic analysis of affected gene families, evaluation of the inter-varietal polymorphisms of the genes, isolation of the coding sequences, establishment of RNAi based silencing and also overexpressing constructs. Establishment of a grapevine-optimized transient expression system, where the effects of these genes can be evaluated, offers a separate subtask.
The candidate will join a young and lively, but also experienced team where she/he will work and publish her/his results. We are expecting the application of candidates committed to science and biology but who are also practice oriented.
