Description of the research topic:

The Overall Stability Design Method (OSDM) is an innovative design method utilizing Linear Buckling Analysis (LBA) and equivalent initial geometrical imperfection in the shape of buckling mode for the assessment of out-of-plane buckling resistance of steel beam-column members. In the framework of the proposed research the OIM type methodology should be extended to steel plated structures. The extended OIM requires deriving a specific analytical design formula for fundamental local buckling cases. For the calibration of the design formula large numbers of different structural configurations should be computed using Abaqus software and GMNIA methodology. The GMNIA model should be verified with experiments collected form the literature. The research will result in a novel methodology to design plated structures.
