Description of the research topic:

The production of some expanded polystyrene foam products uses manufacturing wastes. Currently, there are only professional and company regulations on the proportion of recycled material in expanded polystyrene foam products. There are no reliable sources about how the recycled material affects the properties of the original product. A Ph. D. research could investigate the effects of the recycled material added to the expanded polystyrene foam product in different proportions during the production on the material properties of the original product (e.g., mechanical strength, water absorption, dimensional stability, thermal and sound insulation ability). Based on the results, an optimal recycled material content can be determined for different expanded polystyrene foam product, taking account the aspects of economy, manufacturing and material properties.
