Description of the research topic:

Molecularly imprinted polymers are specially made materials that often exhibit selectivity and affinity comparable to that of antibodies towards a pre-determined target molecule. This target or template molecule is present in the pre-polymerization mixture and removed at the end of the polymerization. It leaves behind molecular recognition sites that are complementary in size, shape and functionality to the template and it can rebind to the polymer with high affinity and selectivity. The goal of the Ph.D. work is to develop peptide/protein-selective molecularly imprinted polymers in various formats (nanogel, core-shell nanoparticle etc.) by using biomimetic building blocks (amino acids, nucleotides) for the improvement of selectivity and to use the obtained polymers in bioanalysis.
