Description of the research topic:

In the last decades the development of new heterogeneous catalysts and heterogeneous catalytic methods became a very important branch in the organic chemical research. A number of new catalysts were developed and used successfully in organic syntheses, opening sometimes new horizons in the synthetic methods (e.g. palladium catalysed C-C coupling reactions). Among the support examined, the mineral based materials have an outstanding importance, since they are not expensive, generally nontoxic, and easy recoverable. The acid-basic properties of these materials may influence the reaction to be catalysed advantageously.
Our research group works on the elaboration of new supported metal catalysts and examines their applicability in different organic syntheses. In the frame of this research work new heterogeneous catalytic methods for C-C different coupling reactions (e.g. Heck, Suzuki, Sonogashira, Kumada coupling, 1,4-addition reactions of arylmagnesium compounds to chalcones, simple palladium catalysed method for the preparation of ynones), were elaborated yielding the desired products with good yield and selectivity. Furthermore, supported metal catalysts (La, Ti, Zn, Fe) were used successfully in multicomponent reactions yielding heterocycles. The aim of the work is the further development of new catalysts, containing different metals or mixed metals, and using them in cyclization, C-C coupling and other reactions.
