Description of the research topic:
Hydroxyapatite (HA) has the highest potential to use as implants in orthopedic application because of its greatest similarity to bone tissue in terms of chemical composition, bioactivity and osteoinductivity. It has already been found application for bone repair and bone substitu-tion implant but its more widespread application is hindered by the poor mechanical proper-ties. During the Ph.D. project we aim at revealing the relationships among preparation, mor-phology and mechanical properties for solid and porous HA and HA based composites and try to get a deeper understanding of the strengthening effect of the different components in the composite and the weakening effect of pore.
