Description of the research topic:

The research focuses on the development of nanofibrous carriers, which are able to immobilize and stabilize sensitive catalyst such as enzymes, cell organs or whole-cells. Nanofibers are made of commercially available, biocompatible polymers such as polyvinyl alcohol, polylactic acid, chitosan etc. The nanofibrous matrixes prepared by electrospinning technique are able to the reversible or irreversible immobilization of biocatalyst as well, thus two different strategies can be performed: i) temporary packaging and stabilization of biocatalyst or ii) permanent immobilization, where nanofibers mean long-term carrier system for the biocatalyst. The developed novel nanofibrous biocatalyst are compared to their native and other alternative immobilized forms based on the following propertied: total biocatalytic activity, specific activity, heat, solvent and pH tolerance and reusability. The PhD topic based on several preparative and analytical method (SEM, Rheological measurements, DSC, UVvis, IR, GC, HPLC, SDS-PAGE etc.), biotechnological tasks (cell exploration, protein purification etc.).
