Description of the research topic:
Warming climate is one of the greatest challenge for forestry sectors. Climate change induced scarcity of water resources can affect large forested areas in Hungary and all around the world, where even the existence of forests is questionable. The applicant is required to select appropriate area(s) for hydrological research. Based on collected data the water balance of area(s) will be investigated and the existing forest and water management practices examined in the context of human-accelerated climate change. Environmentally sound water management practices are socially beneficial, and economically viable so they can help to maintain the forest cover in vulnerable regions.
