Description of the research topic:

Grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) cultivation, training system, cultivar, and annual cultivation practices, such as canopy management and plant protection are highly influenced by the ecological conditions of the vineyards. Canopy microclimate is affected by the micro-topography: elevation and slope of the rows. In the same time temperature, radiation, humidity etc. also modified by the natural vegetation (hedges, forests) around the vineyards. These elements provide functional biodiversity in the agroecosystems in this way those presence are essential in the integrated viticulture. The effect of these natural elements on the microclimate is still not well understood. Since phenological stages: bud burst, shoot growth, berry set and ripening are influenced by the microclimate, the hypothesis is that there would be a noticeable diversity in the vineyard on vegetative performance, yield and must quality.
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of diverse micro-topography and natural vegetation on the vineyard canopy microclimate, vegetative performance, yield and must quality on two different terroirs of Hungary. Investigations are carried out in the field with remote sensing methods, microclimate sensors and hand held instruments. Yield and quality will be evaluated in viticultural and oenological laboratory. The candidate should have knowledge about viticulture, oenology and basic statistics.
