Description of the research topic:
In switchgears and in laboratory scale experiments of lightning strike (strongly limited to the last step of the process) there are several cases when discharges are initiated in such an arrangement where the electrodes are covered by an insulating layer. Investigation of such arrangement are started e.g. in gas insulated switchgears, but because of the complexity of the discharge process, a detailed analysis is necerrary to estimate breakdown voltage for different electrical stresses. The task is a develompent of a simplified model for the estimation of the discharge process ant the critical conditions when this process leads to a complete breakdown.
