Description of the research topic:

Managed Aquifer Recharge is a family of water management methods that have a long history of application but are relatively young as a concept (2018). By definition, it means the conscious replenishment of aquifers for the purpose of subsequent abstraction or environmental gain. The research topic is primarily theoretical, laboratory and simulation research tasks for the doctoral student. Exploration and sustainable use of subsurface drinking water and thermal water resources is an increasing challenge for hydrogeologists. Special measurement procedures and flow, transport, and heat-transport models can provide reassuring professional answers to water management problems in a given area. The research topic may develop new approaches and models that can also take into account artificial replenishment conditions, the specific problems of water sources, as well as increasingly stringent environmental and water management standards and sustainability criteria.
The storing of excess surface water (e.g. flush flood) is a grooving need on many parts of the World because in this way the problems related to water lack in dry periods could be balanced. During Managed Aquifer Recharge the best case could be the desiccation of „clean water”. On this way the deterioration of aquifer could be prevented by inorganic and organic chemical contaminants. The planned research work aims the investigation of desiccation possibilities of waters containing organic contaminants. The chemical, physical and biological degradation of organic matters ensure the natural cleaning of contaminated waters but these processes which happens in the vadose zone of the upper aquifer are complex and less known. It means this research work can serve new information in research field of Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) and Managed Artificial Recharge (MAR).
Within the framework of the research topic, a doctoral student with appropriate mathematical and hydrogeological knowledge would develop new methods and procedures that are important for practice with the help of the supervisor.
