Description of the research topic:
Lipopeptides produced by bacterial species are characterized by a broad spectrum of chemical and biological activities. Due to the lack of comprehensive screening programme, the aims of our research is the isolation of lipopeptides from different bacterial species, the determination of their chemical properties and composition as well as three-dimensional structure, the characterization of their biological activities against bacteria, fungi and mammalian cell lines, and the investigation of the mode of action of lipopeptides. The results obtained by the comprehensive screening programme may provide useful information with regard to new antibacterial and antifungal drug candidates for medicine and pharmaceutics, as well as to potential components as biocontrol agents for agriculture.
