Description of the research topic:

In the Molecular Stress Biology Group we are investigating the heat shock proteins (molecular chaperones) which can protect cells against environmental stress. Our previous findings revealed that cellular membranes have important role in heat sensing and they are also active in the stress response. However, the proper mechanism of the membrane-thermosensing is still unknown such as the very first events occurring upon heat perception and the upcoming first reactions of membranes (both structural and compositional changes). In this particular project we are planning to study these first events using molecular biology methods, ultrasensitive and high-content fluorescence microscopy and other state of the art biophysical methods which are capable to monitor membrane properties at the highest spatio-temporal resolution (Langmuir-Blodgett monolayer, fluorescence spectroscopy etc.).
