Description of the research topic:

Factors influencing the arthropod communities in secoundary habitats

Increasing human activities, such as agricultural intensification and urbanization, resulted in a considerable decline in biodiversity and related ecosystem services throughout the world but particularly in Europe. In fragmented agricultural landscapes of Europe, the availability of natural habitats has been highlighted as the limiting factor for the conservation of populations. However, a significant proportion of native biota can survive in secondary habitats such as kurgans, field margins and hedgerows, road and railway verges, and even in green habitats of urbanized areas such as parks. Thus, it is particularly important to reveal if these secoundary habitats contribute to conservation of biodiversity. The task of the student will be to show the effects of (1) land use intensity and (2) landscape composition and configuration on the invertebrate fauna of secoundary habitats and small fragments
