Description of the research topic:

Astrocytes form an anatomical and functional network, which supports neurons by nutrient supply, elimination of potentially hazardous waste products such as K+ and glutamate, and maintaining the ionic homeostasis in the brain. The central objective of the proposed research is to alleviate the symptoms of acute and chronic neurological diseases, by reducing neuronal injury via supporting astrocyte network function and spatial buffering of K+ and glutamate.
