Description of the research topic:
The last two decades have seen spectacular changes in Turkey’s foreign policy, led by the Justice and Development Party (AKP) since 2002, Turkey moving further and further away from the model established by Kemal Atatürk, Western orientation and seeking to regain its former “imperial” status. To this end, it is pursuing an increasingly active foreign policy in the regions of influence of the former Turkish Empire, the Balkans, the Middle East and North Africa, and more recently in other countries on the African continent. To this end, not only the generally accepted instruments - the development of diplomatic and economic relations, cultural cooperation - are used, but also the Turkish army and the increasingly military-controlled Turkish defence industry.
The aim of the research is to examine how Turkey has transformed its previous foreign policy in recent decades, the role it intended for the Turkish army and the defence industry. We examine separately the history of the Turkish defence industry, its structure, operation, development directions, and vision, as well as which countries buy the products of the Turkish defence industry and how it affects their relationship with Turkey.
