Description of the research topic:

The Eurasian beaver (Castor fiber) extinct from Hungary during the 19th century, however in 1996 a number of beaver were released in Hungary. Thanks to this action, nowadays more than 1000 beavers live in the country, and their numbers are increasing. The beaver is able to modify the character of the waterbody significantly as it is an ecosystem engineer species. The abiotic and biotic parameters and the retention time of the water are basically changing thanks to the beaver activity, but these changes are mostly unknown.
The aim of the study to determine the changes of the planktonic and benthic algal communities together with the physical and chemical parameters of the water. The task of the applicant to perform field experiments, then analyse and interpret the dataset.
