Description of the research topic:

We are witnessing an increasing use of modern materials today. One such modern material is metal foam. For the wide use of new materials, we need to have a detailed knowledge of the materials in a wide range of uses and applications. The research topic set out to investigate such a specialized case.
During the research work, we plan to carry out the following key activities.
1. Literature and patent research on the topic. Analyzing the results achieved so far, exploring possible areas of use.
2. Study of currently known fatigue processes. Systematize the similarities and differences between fatigue characteristics of conventional materials and metal foam materials.
3. Research and search of metal foam materials use within gear drives. Determination of the potential application of metal foam and determination of its use. Identification of missing design parameters.
4. 4. Design and construction of a fatigue equipment, whereby parameters for metallic foam material can be created to use in the design of gearboxes.
5. Systematization and evaluation of achieved results.
6. Continuous publication of results.
Research conditions:
Research has been carried out at the Institute of Machine and Product Design of the University of Miskolc in recent years on the use of metal foam materials in gear drives. A dissertation on the topic was also published in 2014. As a result of these researches, the institute has the experience and the workshop and manufacturing equipment necessary to produce the test equipment. In addition, there are engineering and mathematical software systems available to assist in research work.
