Description of the research topic:

One of the most important quality criteria is the roughness of the manufactured product. The roughness that determines performance, friction coefficient, wear-resistance and a number of other characteristics are critical.
Today, there are different methods for determining roughness. Most of them are associated with mechanical, optical or laser instruments for measuring roughness. With the development of the use of lasers and the knowledge of the physical phenomenon of polarization, the possibility of studying roughness opens up new possibilities.
In this Ph.D. work, a mobile device based on measuring roughness should be recreated by applying a laser and the phenomenon of polarization from the reflected surface. The advantage of using this equipment will be that it is not necessary to remove from the machine in order to determine its roughness. Moreover, thanks to this device, it is possible to carry out a statistical analysis of measured products.
It is known that the cutting process creates a surface roughness profile; moreover, two identical surface profiles do not exist since the surface profile obeys the law of probability. However, the average value of the profiles is taken for the roughness accuracy, thereby determining the accuracy of the surface roughness. Based on this, it is possible to collect storage data and evaluate roughness after each technological operation. The final grinding process with abrasive is the most time-consuming and economically expensive operation. If each time we analyze the technological process, we can identify the most economical technological process of creating the part, then we will move one step closer to the fourth industrial revolution.

Research Targets:
1) Based on the available data, to create a device for determining the roughness accuracy by the relationship between the degree of polarization and reflected radiation.
2) Development of the measurement of roughness in the identification of polarization from the reflected surface.
3) Development of software for determining the roughness accuracy class.
4) Development of software for the identification of statistical analysis to determine the optimal production process.
Industrial background:
Today, mankind boldly steps on the path of the fourth industrial revolution, synthesizing the resources of artificial intelligence and human capabilities. The digitalization process is a fundamental step in the fourth industrial revolution. Creating a device that will be automated as well as digitalized will help to create increasingly lighter processes to achieve results. Thanks to modern technical capabilities, it is possible to predict and identify the most technically complex and economically unprofitable processes in achieving the required surface quality
