Description of the research topic:

According to the latest results, the sigma-1 receptor plays a key role in
the pathomechanism of most of the neurodegenerative diseases. Modulation
of the receptor may lead to a decrease of the endoplasmic reticulum
stress, which might open a new therapeutic way in the treatment of these
diseases. In the frames of the project we aim to test the effect of
putative drug candidates on the sig-1 receptor and try to identify novel
principles regarding their structure-activity relationship.
