Description of the research topic:
Faithful repair of DNA damages is indispensable, since improper repair process can lead to genome instability, chromosomal translocations and cancer formation. Cells have developed several pathways eligible for DNA repair and the choice as well as the balance among them must be tightly regulated to preserve genome integrity. For the better understanding of these mechanisms, detection and qualification of tumors are essential to recognize cancer development even at early stages. The project has significant implications in understanding DNA repair-related mechanisms revealing specific mechanisms susceptible for genome instability and in helping us to understand why certain mutations and translocations are recurrent in several cancer types.
