Description of the research topic:
Humanitarian management professionals face numerous technical, mechanical, personnel, security and other challenges during the practice of humanitarian assistance. Beyond the duties of search and rescue, emergency medical assistance, food security, water supply and other assistance, one of the most significant tasks is the settlement of and assistance to refugees or internally displaced persons uprooted by humanitarian crises.
The concrete line of research within the topic will be elaborated during the consultations with the PhD student.
Research agenda for the topic:
1, Study the professional literature from open sources: the practical issues of humanitarian assistance, especially the technical, mechanical and other requirements of establishing refugee camps.
2, Study of the practice of humanitarian assistance. The types of humanitarian crises. Natural disasters. Complex emergencies. The beneficiary. The Sustainable Development Goals.
3, Study of the forms and process of humanitarian assistance: Search and Rescue. Emergency Medical Assistance. Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. Food. Shelter. Camps. Livelihood, non-food items. Linking Relief to Development.
4, Study of the legal regulations of refugees and internally displaced persons.
5, Study of the technical, mechanical and other requirements of establishing refugee camps.
6, Types of shelter assistance solutions and categories of shelters.
7, The camp planning process and its technical, mechanical, security and other requirements.
8, The camp site selection criteria.
9, The camp facilities and services.
10, Case studies, practical experiences.
