Description of the research topic:
In the 21st century, the sport gains more and more attention among the activities of society. First, in recreation it is the main pillar of a new society based on health-oriented lifestyle. Secondly, as business with growing markets in global semi-peripheries and peripheries as well, and growing professional background creates increasing number of workplaces directly, and indirectly through tourism. Finally, it is an essential element of identity building at the level of local communities, nations and sometimes regions or even larger units as well – in that meaning also influenced by political geographical aspects. Therefore, sport affects all the three aspects of the production of space. geographical researches about sport give usually only skin-deep insights to the social and spatial context. To fit this call, researches analysing the deeper connection between a community’s development and sport are welcome. Also approaches of the spatial accessibility of sport (as recreation, as for youth players, as for professional entertainment) could be realised, and even questions about the spatiality of human talent can be formed.
