Description of the research topic:

South Europe – especially the Balkan Peninsula, the Apennine Peninsula and the Iberian Peninsula – is a place of integration and disintegration that last for centuries now. Main objective of the research is the multidisciplinary comparative analysis of the area’s models of society and state construction, which are also affected by phases of civilization, with a special focus on the processes of modernisation, democratization, migration, ethnicity, politics and history.
