Description of the research topic:

The understanding of complex material flows is crucial with regard to global sustainability, promotion of national scale circular economy, developing regional scale smart specialization strategies, and the secure supply of critical materials for selected industries (key enabling technologies, decarbonisation options in the energy sector, defence, etc). Detailed material flow analysis of pilot cases supported by information on ruling framework conditions (permitting, economic drivers, social aspects, geographical and geological settings, waste management culture, etc.) shall be developed. Optionally, a decision making support scheme shall be outlined for potential users.
