Description of the research topic:
Mecsek Coal Formation has the biggest coal resources with complex geology in Hungary. Exploration campaigns with drilling and geophysical 2D seismic program has started in the eighties of last century and followed by new drillings and 3D seismic campaign 10 years ago in the northern part of the basin. The objectives of the study are to establish coal seam correlation in the basin using lithology, well-log and seismic interpretation and to confirm or refine the latest structural model for further utilisation of coal occurrences for conventional or unconventional ways.
